Broadway has always celebrated its stars, but the designers, associates, assistants, stage managers, and shops behind every production rarely get the same visibility. Their work appears in programs and press releases, but there has been no single place to track, follow, or understand it across the industry. The Tech Table was built to fill that gap.
At its core, The Tech Table is a data platform tracking Creative and Production talent across On and Off Broadway, touring, regional theater, opera, and beyond. That work supports three products: a weekly newsletter covering the industry, our Annual On and Off Broadway Scorecards, and a social media post for every On and Off Broadway show documenting its creative and production teams on opening night.
Whether you're a designer, a stage manager, a shop, or an industry follower, The Tech Table gives you a clear, organized view of who's working on what.
Larry Schwartz
Larry got the theater bug early, working backstage on "Peter Pan" at the Weston Drama Workshop in Massachusetts in 1975. In high school he stage-managed and directed plays and musicals, then studied Theatre Design (with a focus on lighting) at Bates College.
After a year and a half in the Maine cold, he left Bates for an internship as a carpenter at Hartford Stage, then spent a summer as Master Electrician at Goodspeed Opera House, moving several productions to Broadway. He returned to Hartford Stage as a full-time carpenter/welder, followed by a summer as Technical Director at the South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset, Massachusetts. He then enrolled at the Yale School of Drama's Technical Design and Production program.

Pioneering Ticketing & Software Tech
While at YSD, Larry discovered computers and launched his first company, Artsoft, providing in-house ticketing, fundraising, and accounting software for LORT theaters. Through growth and acquisitions, Artsoft became Tickets.com, which went public in 1999 and was later acquired by Major League Baseball in 2005; Larry co-founded and served as President, leaving before the IPO.
E-Commerce & Digital Strategy Ventures
He then moved into online auctions, advising eBay before helping Times Mirror acquire Auction Universe (later Auctions.com), where he became President and CEO. The company competed with eBay before being sold to Classified Ventures in 1998. Larry then founded New Net Companies, an e-business consultancy that guided ventures including Bolenka Games Online (Trivial Pursuit Online), GFI Group, Wizard World, and Patron Technology.
Building & Scaling Digital Media Platforms
In 2003, Larry became President of Comtex, a public company and leading wholesaler of real-time news content for major financial and business information distributors. The following year, he co-founded rival company Newstex, signing up thousands of top bloggers to deliver commentary through content distributors and mobile apps to professionals in journalism, business, academia, law, government, and beyond, with bloggers earning royalties on their content. Larry led Newstex for 20 years, retiring in 2024.
Cannabis Industry Data & Licensing
In 2015, he co-founded Cannabiz Media, building the most comprehensive source of cannabis and hemp licensing data, tracking over 100,000 licenses through a License Tracking Database used by industry stakeholders and investors for business, regulatory, and reporting decisions. As CEO, Larry led sales, business development, and technology until the company's acquisition by Emerald Intel in October 2025.
Return to Theater & Launching The Tech Table
In 2026, Larry returned to his theater roots, applying his experience in data and publishing to launch The Tech Table — filling a longstanding information gap for the Creative and Production talent on and Off Broadway, including designers, associates, assistants, stage managers, and shops. This past April 2026, The Tech Table launched its Broadway Scorecards series for the 2025–2026 season, tracking the designers, associates, and assistants behind this season's productions.

A self-professed gadget geek and avid cyclist, Larry also enjoys Broadway life with his wife—a theatrical agent—and their Portuguese Water dog.
